Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: handset, base unit, rechargeable battery pack (600mAh Ni-Cd), belt clip, telephone line cord, base power adapter (120V AC, 60Hz), desk/wall mount bracket, user's manual. Install battery in handset and charge for 16 hours before first use. Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference. Use wall mount bracket if desired.

The VTech VT5823 is a cordless 5.8GHz phone with enhanced dual band transmission for better performance. Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack (use DSL filter if needed). Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Install battery in handset (align plug, snap into place, replace cover). Place handset in base to charge for 16 hours. For wall mount, insert bracket and slide base onto mounting studs. Set language, dial mode, date/time.

Check Operation

After charging, lift handset and press PHONE; listen for dial tone. Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume. Verify charging light on base.

Basic Calling

  1. Press PHONE, enter number.
  2. To answer: Press PHONE.
  3. Adjust volume with VOL.
  4. End call: Press OFF or place in base.

Intercom

Not applicable for single handset model.

Caller ID

View via CID; new calls with icon. Dial back with PHONE. Store to directory via PROG. Up to 45 entries; displays name, number, time, date.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with PROG. Set date/time, program directory, speed dial.

  1. Set Time: PROG > ▲/▼ to DATE/TIME > SELECT > Enter MM/DD/YY, HH:MM > SELECT.
  2. Directory Entries: PROG > DIRECTORY > STORE > Enter number/name > SAVE.
  3. Speed Dial: PROG > SPEED DIAL > LOCATION > Enter number/name > SAVE.
  4. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.
