Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: telephone base, handset(s) (1-5 depending on model), battery pack(s), power adapter(s), telephone line cord, wall mount bracket(s), abridged user's manual. Install battery in handset(s) (align cover, insert with correct polarity, slide cover). Place handset(s) in base/charger to charge (battery icon animates; full charge recommended initially).

Description

The VTech VG231 is a DECT 6.0 cordless phone with Bluetooth headset support, backlit display, speakerphone, adjustable ringer, 50-name directory, caller ID log, speed dial (0-9), quiet mode, ECO mode, voicemail waiting indicator (provider-based). Supports English, French, Spanish. Handset and base layouts include CID/VOLUME keys, navigation keys, dialing keys, headset jack, charging light.

Applications: Residential cordless telephony; Compatible with Caller ID; Up to 5 handsets; Bluetooth for headsets.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician. Do not install base above 2 meters.

Specifications

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack. Install battery in handset (correct polarity, slide cover). Place handset in base/charger to charge. For wall mount, align bracket on wall plate, snap base into place. Use only provided adapters.

Basic Calling

  1. Enter number, press PHONE.
  2. To answer: Press PHONE.
  3. Adjust volume with /VOLUME.
  4. End call: Press OFF or place in base.

Answering Machine

  1. No built-in answering system; use provider voicemail.
  2. Retrieve messages: Dial provider access number.
  3. Clear indicators: Menu > Voicemail.

Intercom

  1. Press MENU > Intercom, select extension.
  2. Answer: Press PHONE.
  3. Transfer call: Press Intercom during call.

Caller ID

View via CID key; new calls indicated. Dial back with PHONE. Save to directory via menu.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with MENU. Set language/time, program directory, configure settings.
