Preparations

Unpack the handset and ensure components are present: accessory handset, rechargeable NiMH battery pack, battery compartment cover, charger and power adapter. Install the battery by opening the compartment cover, inserting the battery with "THIS SIDE UP" facing up, plugging the connector, and snapping the cover closed. Place the handset in the charger and charge for 16 hours before first use. The handset is compatible with the VTech 20-2432 base system.

Description

The VTech SBC20-2422 is a 2.4GHz DSS accessory handset for the 20-2432 2-line cordless phone system. Features include backlit LCD display, 2.5mm headset jack for hands-free, integration with base answering system, caller ID, and support for up to 8 handsets. Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 120 VAC; improper use can cause shock/fire. All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Connect the charger power adapter to the charger and an unswitched electrical outlet. Insert the handset into the charger; the charging light turns on. Charge for 16 hours. To register the handset to the base: Place handset in charger, remove after charging, press NEW on handset screen, enter the base ID code (displayed on base screen or manual), press OK. The handset screen shows "REGISTERING" then "HANDSET X" when successful. For multiple handsets, repeat. No wiring for handset; base wiring as per base manual.

CAUTION! All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Do not use switched outlets.

Check Operation

After charging, remove handset from charger and press any key to check screen icons (battery, signal). Press a dialing key to check dial tone (refer to base for full test). Test registration by placing in charger; screen shows "HANDSET X". Test headset jack by connecting optional 2.5mm headset and making a call.

Basic Calling

  1. Press /FLASH or dialing key for dial tone, enter number.
  2. To answer: Press /FLASH, or any dialing key.
  3. Adjust volume with VOL +/- during call.
  4. End call: Press OFF/CLEAR or place in charger.

Answering Machine

The handset does not have a built-in answering system; use the base answering system. Access messages from handset by pressing PLAY/STOP on base or via remote access. Refer to base manual for full instructions.

Intercom

  1. Press INT, enter extension number.
  2. Answer: Press /FLASH or dialing key.
  3. Transfer call: Press INT during call, enter number.

Caller ID

View caller ID on handset screen (new calls with icon). Dial back by pressing /FLASH. Save to phonebook via MENU > STORE. Refer to base manual for full caller ID operation.

Programming

Access menu with MENU/SELECT. Set handset name, ringer tone, registration.

  1. Set Handset Name: Menu > HS SETTINGS > RENAME HS > Enter name > SAVE.
  2. Ringer Tone: Menu > HS SETTINGS > RING SETUP > RINGER > Select tone > SAVE.
  3. Registration: Menu > HS SETTINGS > REGISTRATION > NEW > Enter base ID > OK.
