Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: telephone base, cordless handset, 2 x NiMH 2/3 AAA 2.4V 400mAh rechargeable batteries, battery compartment cover, base power adapter, telephone line cord, user's manual. Install batteries in handset (positive terminal first) and charge by placing on base until fully charged (initial charge recommended). Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference.

Description

The VTech LS1700A is a DECT cordless phone with private phonebook (30 entries), call list (20 received calls), redial list (10 numbers), internal calls, call transfer, conference calls, alarm, caller ID (network dependent), voice mail waiting indication (VMWI, network dependent), and ECO mode. Handset layout includes earpiece, LCD display, soft keys, navigation keys, OK key, end/power key, speakerphone key, alphanumeric keypad, headset jack, charging pins, microphone. Base includes power/line jacks, charging contacts, page key, volume keys. LCD icons: battery, signal, voicemail, ringer, alarm, key lock, new call.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Avoid use during thunderstorms; do not overload outlets; unplug if exposed to rain/damage. Use only VTech power adapters and batteries. Dispose of batteries properly; do not burn/puncture. Keep away from heat. Lacks grounding; some PBX functions limited.

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Connect power adapter and telephone line cord to base jacks, then to mains socket and wall jack. Install batteries in handset. Place handset on base to charge. For additional handsets, register via menu.

CAUTION! All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Do not use switched outlets.

Check Operation

After charging, check LCD icons; press keys to navigate. Test dial tone by entering number and pressing call key. Verify charging contacts.

Basic Calling

  1. Enter number, press call key.
  2. To answer: Press call key or any dial key.
  3. Adjust volume with navigation keys.
  4. End call: Press end key.

Answering Machine

  1. Network voicemail only; check icon for new messages.
  2. Access via service provider instructions.
  3. VMWI indicator shows status (network dependent).

Intercom

  1. Press intercom soft key, enter extension (1-5).
  2. Answer: Press call key.
  3. Transfer: Press intercom during call, select handset.

Caller ID

View call list; new calls with icon. Dial back or save to phonebook. Network dependent.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with right soft key. Set date/time, program phonebook, configure settings.

  1. Set Time: HS SETTINGS > DATE & TIME > Enter YY/MM/DD, HH:MM > OK.
  2. Phonebook Entries: PHONEBOOK > ADD > Enter name/number/ringtone > Save.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.
