Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: telephone base, cordless handset(s) (1 or 2 depending on model), rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack(s), battery compartment cover(s), telephone base power adapter, telephone line cord, charger(s) and adapter(s) for additional handsets. Install battery in handset(s) and charge for several hours before first use. Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference.

Description

The VTech FS6214 is a DECT 6.0 cordless phone with directory for storing entries, caller ID log, redial list, multiple handset support (for 2-handset models), ECO mode, and basic calling features. Features include backlit display, adjustable ringer, sharing outside calls, and TIA-1083 compliance. Supports English, French. Handset and base layouts include navigation keys, volume controls, dedicated buttons for menu, redial, find handset.

Applications: Residential cordless telephony; Compatible with DSL/Caller ID; Up to 2 handsets.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 120 VAC; improper use can cause shock/fire. All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Avoid use during storms, near gas leaks, or with pacemakers without consulting doctor. Dispose of batteries per local regulations (call 1-800-8-BATTERY for recycling). Install DSL filter if using high-speed internet.

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack (use DSL filter if needed). Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Install battery in handset (align, snap cover). Place handset in base/charger to charge. For wall mount, position base on wall plate studs, slide down to lock. For additional handsets, charge in separate chargers.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: RJ11 jack for line cord on base; DC jack for power adapter.

Standard Setup: Wall jack to DSL filter (if needed) to base RJ11; Power outlet to adapter to base DC jack.

Wall Mount: Route cords through mounting holes.

CAUTION! All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Do not use switched outlets.

Check Operation

After charging, lift handset and listen for dial tone (may take 1-2 seconds). Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume. Verify synchronization with base.

Basic Calling

  1. Lift handset or press dialing key, enter number.
  2. To answer: Lift handset or press dialing key.
  3. Adjust volume with navigation keys.
  4. End call: Place in base or press end key.

Answering Machine

  1. No built-in answering system; use provider voicemail.
  2. Access via service provider instructions.
  3. Voicemail indicator if subscribed.

Intercom

  1. For multi-handset: Press INT or phone button to join call.
  2. Share outside call: Press phone button on second handset.
  3. Conference: Both handsets on call simultaneously.

Caller ID

View log via CID; new calls indicated. Dial back with dialing key. Subscription required; sets date/time automatically.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with MENU. Set date/time, program directory, configure ringer.

  1. Set Time: Menu > Date/Time > Enter details > Select. Auto-sets with Caller ID.
  2. Phonebook Entries: Menu > Directory > Store > Enter name/number > Save.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.

Configuration

Enter menu via MENU. Adjust ringer volume/tone, key tone, display language, ECO mode.
