Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: handsets, telephone base, chargers, batteries, power adapters, telephone line cord, wall mounting brackets, and user's manual. Install batteries in handsets following polarity (+/-). Charge batteries for 16 hours before first use. Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference. Use a screwdriver if wall mounting.

Description

The VTech CS6229 is a cordless DECT 6.0 phone with crystal controlled PLL synthesizer for clear calls. Features include large backlit display, speakerphone, adjustable ringer, 50-entry directory and call log, digital answering system with 99 messages capacity, remote access, intercom between handsets, and voicemail indicator. Supports English, French, Spanish. Handset and base layouts include navigation keys, volume controls, and dedicated buttons for mute, redial, and find handset.

Applications: Residential cordless telephony; Compatible with DSL/Caller ID; Up to 5 handsets.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, disconnect power before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 120 VAC; improper use can cause shock/fire. All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Avoid use during storms, near gas leaks, or with pacemakers without consulting doctor. Dispose of batteries per local regulations. Install DSL filter if using high-speed internet.

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Choose table top or wall mount. Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack (use DSL filter if needed). Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Install batteries in handsets and place in base/chargers to charge for 16 hours. For wall mount, attach brackets and secure to wall plate.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: RJ11 jack for line cord on base; DC jack for power adapter.

Standard Setup: Wall jack to DSL filter (if needed) to base RJ11; Power outlet to adapter to base DC jack.

Wall Mount: Route cords through bracket slots.

CAUTION! All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Do not use switched outlets.

Check Operation

After charging, lift handset and listen for dial tone. Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume.

Basic Calling

  1. Enter number and press /FLASH or .
  2. To answer: Press any dialing key or .
  3. Adjust volume with VOL/ .
  4. End call: Press OFF/CLEAR or place in charger.

Answering Machine

  1. Press ANS ON/OFF on base to turn on.
  2. Record announcement: Menu > Ans. System > Announcement > Record.
  3. Test by calling from another phone; messages record automatically.

Intercom

Press INT on handset; select extension or page all. Answer from another handset.

Caller ID

View via CID key; new calls indicated by icon. Dial back with /FLASH.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with MENU/SELECT. Set date/time, program directory, configure answering system.

  1. Set Time: Menu > Set Date/Time > Enter MM/DD/YY, HH:MM > MENU/SELECT.
  2. Phonebook Entries: Menu > Directory > Store > Enter number (up to 30 digits), name (15 chars) > Save.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.

Handset Configuration

Enter menu via MENU/SELECT. Adjust ringer, LCD language, home area code, clear voicemail.
