Preparations

Unpack the console and ensure all components are present: console, handset with coiled cord, power adapter, audio cable, four telephone line cords, mounting bracket, four AA alkaline batteries for backup, quick start guide, and user's manual. Insert batteries for power failure protection. Place console near telephone jacks and unswitched power outlet. No tools required beyond screwdriver for wall mounting.

Description

The VTech CM18445 is a 4-line main console with backlit display, speakerphone, adjustable ringer, directory (100 entries), call log (50 entries), redial (10), speed dial (32), intercom, paging, and auto attendant answering system. Supports English, French, Spanish. Console layout includes line keys, volume controls, mute, headset jack, and navigation keys.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 120 VAC; improper use can cause shock/fire. All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Avoid use during storms, near gas leaks, or with pacemakers (keep 6 inches away). Dispose of batteries per local regulations. Install DSL filter if using high-speed internet. Inform parties before recording calls.

Removing Old Console

Power off old console. Disconnect all cords and lines. Remove batteries if applicable. Deregister any extensions if needed.

Installation

Choose tabletop or wall mount. Install mounting bracket. Plug power adapter into unswitched outlet. Connect handset cord. Insert backup batteries. Connect line cords to L1-L4 jacks. Register extensions: Menu > Registration > Register ext, follow prompts. For wall mount, secure to wall plate.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: L1, L2, L3, L4 jacks for lines; Power jack; Handset jack; Headset jack (2.5mm); Audio in for music on hold.

Option 1 - Four Single-Line Jacks: Connect line cords from wall jacks to L1-L4 on console.

Option 2 - Two 2-Line Jacks: Connect to L1/2 and L3/4 jacks on console.

CAUTION! All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Do not use switched outlets. Install DSL filter for high-speed internet.

Check Operation

After installation, lift handset and listen for dial tone. Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume. Verify line indicators, register devices, and test intercom, paging, and conference calls.

Basic Calling

  1. Lift handset or press LINE key, dial number.
  2. To answer: Lift handset or press LINE key.
  3. Adjust volume with VOL +/-.
  4. End call: Hang up or press OFF.

Answering Machine

  1. Set up via Menu > Answering system: Set line modes, record announcements.
  2. Play messages: Press PLAY/STOP.
  3. Remote access: Dial console, enter code, follow prompts.

Intercom

Press INTERCOM, select extension, press SELECT; answer with INTERCOM. Supports transfer and conference.

Caller ID

View via Call History; new calls with icon. Dial back or save to directory.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with MENU/SELECT. Set date/time, program directory/speed dial, configure answering system.

  1. Set Time: Menu > Console Setup > Date/Time > Enter MM/DD/YY, HH:MM > SELECT.
  2. Directory Entries: Menu > Directory > Store > Enter number (up to 32 digits), name (24 chars) > Save.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.

Configuration

Enter menu via MENU/SELECT. Adjust LCD language, ringer, call privacy, primary line, etc.
