Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: telephone base, cordless handset, rechargeable NiMH battery pack, battery compartment cover, base power adapter (6V DC 300mA), telephone line cord, user's manual. Install the battery pack by removing the compartment cover, inserting the battery with "THIS SIDE UP" facing up, plugging the connector, and replacing the cover until it clicks. Place the handset in the base and charge for 12 hours before first use. Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference. Use wall mounting bracket if desired.

Description

The VTech BS2425 is a 2.4GHz DSS cordless phone with digital answering system (up to 99 messages, 15 min recording time). Features include backlit display, speakerphone, adjustable ringer, 50-name phonebook, caller ID log, 5-number redial, call transfer, conference calls (up to 2 extensions with base), headset jack (2.5mm), range extender, voicemail waiting indicator (VMWI), and intercom. Supports English, Spanish. Handset layout includes antenna, message waiting indicator, earpiece, headset jack, scroll keys, ON/FLASH dialing keys, handsfree speakerphone, LCD display, select, off/clear, battery compartment, intercom, billed services, microphone. Base includes AC power adapter connection, telephone line cord jack, charging cradle.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack (use DSL filter if needed). Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Install battery in handset (remove cover, insert battery with "THIS SIDE UP", plug connector, replace cover). Place handset in base to charge for 12 hours. For wall mount, use wall mounting bracket. Register additional handsets by pressing NEW on handset, entering base ID code (15 digits on base underside), pressing OK.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: RJ11 jack for line cord on base; DC jack for power adapter.

Standard Setup: Wall jack to DSL filter (if needed) to base RJ11; Power outlet to adapter to base DC jack.

Wall Mount: Route cords through bracket slots.

CAUTION! All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Do not use switched outlets.

Check Operation

After charging, lift handset and listen for dial tone (press ON; phone icon appears). Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume. Verify charging light. Test range extender by activating in interference areas.

Basic Calling

  1. Enter number, press ON or HANDSFREE; or press ON/HANDSFREE then dial.
  2. To answer: Press ON or HANDSFREE.
  3. Adjust volume with VOL +/-.
  4. End call: Press OFF or place in base.

Answering Machine

  1. Press ANS ON/OFF on base to turn on.
  2. Record announcement: Menu > Answering sys > Record annc.
  3. Test by calling from another phone; messages record automatically.

Intercom

  1. Press INTERCOM, enter extension (1-4).
  2. Answer: Press INTERCOM.
  3. Transfer call: Press INTERCOM during call, select handset.

Caller ID

View via calls log; new calls with icon. Dial back with ON. Save to phonebook via STORE.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with MENU. Set date/time, program phonebook, configure ringer.

  1. Set Time: Menu > Handset Settings > Date/Time > Enter details > Save.
  2. Phonebook Entries: Menu > Directory > Store > Enter number/name > OK.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.

Configuration

Enter menu via MENU. Adjust LCD language, key tone, ringer volume/tone, voicemail number, quiet mode.
