Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: telephone base, cordless handset, rechargeable battery pack (2.4V 500mAh Ni-MH), battery compartment cover, base power adapter (9V DC 210mA), telephone line cord, belt clip, user's manual. Install battery in handset and charge for 16 hours before first use. Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference. Use wall mount bracket if desired.

The VTech 921 ADL is a cordless 900MHz phone with ADL technology for reduced audio delay and clearer calls. Supports English, Spanish. Handset and base layouts include navigation keys, volume controls, dedicated buttons for mute, redial, find handset, INT.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 120 VAC; improper use can cause shock/fire. All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Avoid use during storms, near gas leaks, or with pacemakers without consulting doctor (maintain 6-inch distance). Dispose of batteries per local regulations. Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack (use DSL filter if needed). Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Install battery in handset (connector first, label up, slide cover). Place handset in base to charge for 16 hours. For wall mount, attach bracket and slide base into place. Register additional handsets via MENU > Registration.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: RJ11 jack for line cord on base; DC jack for power adapter.

Standard Setup: Wall jack to DSL filter (if needed) to base RJ11; Power outlet to adapter to base DC jack.

Check Operation

After charging, lift handset and listen for dial tone. Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume. Verify CHARGE light on base.

Basic Calling

  1. Press /FLASH, enter number.
  2. To answer: Press /FLASH or any dialing key.
  3. Adjust volume with VOL+/-.
  4. End call: Press OFF/CLEAR or place in base/charger.

Voicemail

  1. Voicemail provided by telephone service; subscribe to service.
  2. VOICEMAIL light on base flashes for new messages.
  3. Access by dialing provider number; clear indicator via menu.

Intercom

  1. Press INT, enter extension number.
  2. Answer: Press /FLASH or dialing key.
  3. Transfer call: Press INT during call, enter number.

Caller ID

View via CID; new calls with icon. Dial back with /FLASH. Save to phonebook via SELECT.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with MENU/SELECT. Set date/time, program phonebook, configure ringer.

  1. Set Time: Menu > Settings > Set date/time > Enter MM/DD/YY, HH:MM > SELECT.
  2. Phonebook Entries: Menu > Phonebook > Add contact > Enter number/name > Save.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.

Configuration

Enter menu via MENU/SELECT. Adjust LCD language, key tone, ringer volume/tone, voicemail number.
