Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: telephone base, 2 cordless handsets, 2 chargers, 2 rechargeable batteries, battery covers, base power adapter (100-240V AC 50/60Hz to 6V DC @ 450mA), 2 charger power adapters (to 6V DC @ 400mA), telephone line cord, user's manual. Install batteries in handsets (align contacts, snap cover) and charge for 16 hours before first use. Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference. Use wall mount if desired.

Description

The VTech 18050 is a cordless DECT phone with digital answering system (up to 99 messages). Features include backlit display, speakerphone, adjustable ringer (10 melodies), 50-name phonebook, caller ID log, 5-number redial, call block, quiet mode, voicemail waiting indicator, call screening, remote access, volume boost, alarm clock. Supports English. Handset and base layouts include navigation keys, volume controls, dedicated buttons for mute, redial, find handset, INT.

Applications: Residential cordless telephony; Compatible with DSL/Caller ID; Up to 5 handsets.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 100-240 VAC; improper use can cause shock/fire. All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Avoid use during storms, near gas leaks, or with pacemakers without consulting doctor. Dispose of batteries per local regulations. Install DSL filter if using high-speed internet. Use only specified adapters and batteries.

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack (use DSL filter if needed). Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Install batteries in handsets (align contacts). Place handsets in base/chargers to charge for 16 hours. For wall mount, slide base onto plate. Register additional handsets via FIND HANDSET on base (hold 6s).

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: RJ11 jack for line cord on base; DC jack for power adapter.

Check Operation

After charging, lift handset and listen for dial tone. Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume. Verify CHARGE light on base. Test paging: Press FIND HANDSET on base.

Basic Calling

  1. Enter number, press TALK/FLASH.
  2. To answer: Press TALK/FLASH or any dialing key.
  3. Adjust volume with VOL+/-.
  4. End call: Press OFF or place in base.

Answering Machine

  1. Press ANS ON/OFF on base to turn on.
  2. Record announcement: Menu > ANS. MACHINE > REC OGM.
  3. Test by calling from another phone; messages record automatically.

Intercom

  1. Press C/INT/MUTE, select extension.
  2. Answer: Press TALK/FLASH.
  3. Transfer call: Press C/INT/MUTE during call.

Caller ID

View via /VOL-; new calls with icon. Dial back with TALK/FLASH. Save to phonebook via OK/MENU > SAVE.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with OK/MENU. Set date/time, program phonebook, configure ringer.

  1. Set Time: Menu > HS SETTINGS > DATE & TIME > Enter details > OK.
  2. Phonebook Entries: Menu > PHONEBOOK > ADD > Enter name/number > SAVE.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.

Configuration

Enter menu via OK/MENU. Adjust LCD language, key tone, ringer volume/tone, voicemail number, call block, quiet mode.
