Preparations

Unpack the phone and ensure all components are present: telephone base, handset, handset charger (for additional handsets), telephone line cord, battery compartment cover, NiMH rechargeable battery, user guide. For additional handsets, include extra VTech 15450 handsets and charger units. Install battery in handset (slide open compartment, fit with label "THIS SIDE UP" facing up, plug connector, replace cover) and charge for up to 16 hours before first use. Place base away from water, heat sources, and interference. Use wall mount if desired. Battery low warning displays on screen; recharge immediately. Battery performance: Up to 6-8 hours talk time, 5-7 days standby with full charge; charge 6-8 hours daily for optimal performance.

Description

The VTech 15450 is a DECT 6.0 cordless phone with digital answering system (~30 min recording time, up to 99 messages). Features include backlit display, speakerphone, adjustable ringer, 100-name phonebook, 50-name caller ID log, 10-number redial, call transfer, conference calls, volume boost, equalizer, quiet mode, voicemail waiting indicator, call screening, remote access, power fail back-up, reminder alerts, talking digit, and alarm clock. Supports English. Handset and base layouts include navigation keys, volume controls, dedicated buttons for mute, redial, find handset, INT, ANS ON/OFF, PLAY/STOP, SKIP, REPEAT, X/DELETE.

Applications: Residential cordless telephony; Compatible with DSL/Caller ID; Expandable to multiple handsets.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, unplug before installation. Use only supplied adapters. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified electrician.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 120 VAC; improper use can cause shock/fire. All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Avoid use during storms, near gas leaks, or with pacemakers without consulting doctor. Dispose of batteries per local regulations. Install DSL filter if using high-speed internet. Base must remain plugged into mains power at all times. Use only supplied NiMH rechargeable batteries; other types may cause damage or fire.

Removing Old Phone

Shut off power if applicable. Remove old phone cover. Label wires before disconnecting. Disconnect wires one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Remove old base from wall.

Installation

Plug telephone line cord into base and wall jack (use DSL filter if needed). Plug power adapter into base and unswitched outlet. Install battery in handset (slide open compartment, fit with label "THIS SIDE UP", plug connector, replace cover). Place handset in base/charger to charge for 16 hours. For wall mount, attach wall mount bracket to base, slide onto plate, route cords through slots. For additional handsets, plug charger into wall socket, place handset in charger. Register additional handsets via MENU > Registration.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: RJ11 jack for line cord on base; DC jack for power adapter.

Standard Setup: Wall jack to DSL filter (if needed) to base RJ11; Power outlet to adapter to base DC jack.

Wall Mount: Route cords through bracket slots.

CAUTION! All wiring must conform to local/national electrical codes. Do not use switched outlets.

Check Operation

After charging, lift handset and listen for dial tone (press TALK). Test by dialing a number and adjusting volume. Verify CHARGE light on base. Test paging: Press PAGE on base; handsets ring, press OFF to stop. Test answering machine: Turn on with ANS ON/OFF; call from another phone to check recording. Test power fail back-up: Place charged handset on base and press TALK to make/answer calls.

Basic Calling

  1. Press TALK/FLASH, dial number (or predial then TALK/FLASH).
  2. To answer: Press TALK/FLASH or any dialing key.
  3. Adjust volume with VOL+/-.
  4. End call: Press OFF/CLEAR or place in base.

Answering Machine

  1. Press ANS ON/OFF on base to turn on.
  2. Record announcement: MENU > ANS. MACHINE > Record annc > Speak > 5 to save.
  3. Test by calling from another phone; messages record automatically.

Intercom

  1. Press MENU > Intercom > SELECT, enter extension, press TALK/FLASH.
  2. Answer: Press TALK/FLASH.
  3. Transfer call: Press INT during call, select recipient.

Caller ID

View via CID; new calls with NEW icon. Dial back with TALK/FLASH. Save to phonebook via MENU > Add contact.

Operating Features

Programming

Access menu with MENU/OK. Set date/time, program phonebook, configure ringer.

  1. Set Time: MENU > HS SETTINGS > DATE & TIME > Enter month/day/year/hour/minute > OK (auto-set via CID default On).
  2. Phonebook Entries: MENU > PHONEBOOK > ADD > Enter number/name/melody > OK.
  3. Run: Exit menu; changes activate immediately.

Enter menu via MENU/OK. Adjust key tone, ringer volume/tone, alarm, answering system.
